Obviously I'm here because I like beer (drinking beer is one of my favorite sports!). I decided to try brewing and I love it! My 1st batch was an applewood smoked Dunkelweizen. I used 1lb of crystal malt, 1lb of Perla Negra, 2 containers of Bavarian liquid malt extract and 1oz of Hersbrucker hop pellets. I smoked the crystal malt for 2hrs over apple wood chips at around 200°. The beer turned out great.
It's smoky, but not overpowering, pretty smooth and no nasty aftertaste. My brother said the smell and taste reminded him of an old time bbq joint (in a good way). I couldn't be happier with my 1st batch. It went great with a bbq wild boar ham! The only people that didn't like it are people that don't like dark beer or think Bud Light is good beer.
I just started a batch of Hefeweizen and everything is going fine with it and it should be right on time for a crawfish boil.
I'm sure I can't give any brewing advice, but I hope I can learn something hanging around here.
Here's a pic of my 1st brew. The name, Sumpfwasser, is German for swamp water.
