I was prepping a yeast starter tonight planning on brewing tomorrow (sunday) and I had a bit of an issue. I took the vial out of the fridge to warm up a little before dumping in with the mixture, and i shook the vial up quite a bit because it was very settled out. well, when i cracked the vial an hour later, it rapidly expanded and half of it spilled out before i could make it to the liter bottle.

I would think it'd still be ok, it'll just take a bit more time for the yeast to reproduce and start doing its work fermenting, right? or am i screwed?

For White Labs vials, when I take it out of the fridge I crack it for a second then close it. I keep doing that as it warms up to slowly release all of the pressure that built up.

Recalculate the size of starter needed. Base the size on the estimated amount of yeast saved. You can brew today and pitch the yeast tomorrow. Use Starsan liberally and seal the chilled wort at the kettle rim with plastic wrap.
