When I was in Minnesota a few years ago I found a beer that I cannot for the life of me remember. All I know is that it was brewed in Wisconsin an the Tap was a canoe. Does anyone know the name of this beer and what I could use to brew something similar? I think it's a honey hefeweizen, from what I remember being told about it.

I'm sort of new to brewing I have only brewed 1 batch, and it was the Mr. Beer Pale Ale kit, i thought is sucked, it tasted like Bud Lite, but my friends loved it, so I guess that's a plus.

Thanks for the info.

I'm going to go do some grouse hunting down there this weekend, I'll have to stop by.

The closest I can get to Leinenkugel's is Bozeman. I miss that beer, it's SOOOOO good!!!!

SABMiller picked up distributing rights to leinie's beers a few years ago. Since then it's been easy to find leinie's in MN, WI, IL and IA. My brother-in-law said they even have it at the liquor store by their house in TX.

Funny-

I live about 15 minutes from there. Around here Lienie's is considered to be on par with a PBR or an Old Milwaukee.

If you want a GOOD Wisconsin beer, you need to come all the way here, past Minnesota. New Glarus makes Leinie's look like BMC, but they do not ship outside WI.

I went to school at UWGB and found some micros that were great. My personel favorite was Slab City. Tasty stuff.

Grizz2534-
We have a bunch of great breweries around that in my opinion are much better than Lienies. What style of brew are you looking for?

Here's a little proof that I have been out that way.

While Leinies is a sentimental favorite, I agree that it's not the best.

Guys, lets give griz a little space. He's just starting out of the box with Mr. Beer.
He'll come around, especially if hialtitude is going to baby step him through the process.

I don't mean to cut on Lienie's, I just find it funny that people from elsewhere seem to love it so much, and the locals all think it is swill.

I'm a little different, I've never found it to be that bad- but then I have lousy taste in beer. Heck, I think the new Miller Chill stuff is kinda tasty!

Mods, show this tool the door. ;)

LMAO to funny! Nothing like coming out of the closet on a public forum. The next thing you know he'll spouting about how great the new Coors High Life is! ;)

Nah, probably not. I never have been much of a beer drinker.

Hello, My name is Docapi- and I have no taste for beer.:p

Go Griz BTW.
SWMBO and I both graduated from UM. Had a lot of fun in Missoula, but haven't been back since '95. Drank a ton of beer at Bayern Brewing/Iron Horse. Wonder if its still there...?

Welcome to the forum Griz2534!

Sunset Wheat appeared in Boston earlier this year. Not a big fan of it though. I love the Honey Weiss and I like the Red. Word is they will soon follow the Sunset Wheat out here.

I miss MN.

The first time I had sunset wheat I didn't think it was that bad. But then my sister said that it tastes like fruity pebbles (the cereal) and ever since then, I can't drink it without tasting fruity pebbles, so I no longer drink it.

I've heard a good number of people make the same observation. Fruity Pebbles, Fruit Loops, Trix, or just plain blueberries. I guess it's the coriander that gives it that taste?

Holy cow I started a riot just by asking about 1 type of beer! Sweet!!!

I love Hefeweizens I usually buy Henry's and Pyramid, but right now I'm a broke college kid, so I've been buying the 30 packs of Ice House for $14!

I pretty much just want to make something that doesn't taste like bud lite, like my last beer did.

I can't drink Sunset Wheat myself anymore. All I taste is Trix cereal! The new beer they put out this summer was decent as well, Summer Shandy. Kinda like lemonade beer.

I like most of what Leinie's makes, but I don't rank it up there with great beers.

I like the creamy dark...summer shandy isn't bad in the summer, and I find myself drinking leinie's light of all things...

The one I can not stand, and can't figure out how anyone else can, is the berry weiss....

The only use for that I have found is as a marinade.....pour a couple bottles over some venison steaks with an onion or two and a clove of garlic chopped up in it overnight, then grill slowly... good stuff!

Hmm, that sounds interesting. I'm going to have to try that. I agree though; I can't stomach their Berry Weiss. That beer is WAY too sweet.

I couldn't stand Summer Shandy or Sunset Wheat for that matter. But I actually love Berry Weiss out of the tap. The word around the corner is that their going to be putting their "Big Eddie"(an IPA) in to bottles. It was a bar only on tap beer for a while. Pumbaa and me tried it awhile back and it's like all the rest of their beers (except Berry Weiss) as in watered down and thin. But I would drink Original Lienies before most BMC. BTW I've met one of the Lienie brothers and he's a jerk (really wanted to put something else here but were not in the drunk section).

I don't mind the creamy dark myself.

When visiting family in Milwaukee a few years back, I had the creamy dark on nitrogen at Rookie's on Howell and Howard. Quite tasty....
