Today is day three in the primary. There is a little activity, but very slow. Is this normal or should I be worried? I brewed an APA and the OG was 1.058 if that helps.
 
Only way to know what is going on is to pull a Hydro sample.

It could very well be done and you never saw it take off, or, it could be stalled.
 
I changed out the airlock and cleaned it...primary smelled really good...and replaced airlock and there was a little more activity...I will wait a couple more days and take a reading...any thoughts?
 
OK. Now that you've verified that the yeast is doing its thing, ignore it for a while. Forget about it for at least a week, although two will be better. If the yeast is working and metabolizing the sugars, there's not really anything else you can do.

Did this beer turn out? I had one batch that took about 60 hours to start visibly fermenting. I was concerned but got reassurance from people to let the yeast "do it's thing". I threw it out. Newbies can take solace in knowing that when a beer is infected...it is obvious! IMO, after about 20 AG batches of ale with only one going bad, I can say that if you use a yeast starter, anything over 24 hours for ales would concern me. That is giving bacteria too much time to cause problems. Using a starter, I always see action within 12 hours.
 
I don't rely on the airlock to tell me if it is fermenting. I am used to seeing the bubbles, however. I have had a batch or 2 that didn't bubble. If there are no bubbles after a few days, take a hydro reading. You'll almost always find it was fermenting, unless you had a serious problem (like dead yeast, no aeration, etc). The bubbler is a toy, for the most part. It looks cool, but not reliable.

In the immortal words of Mr Popeil: "Set it and forget it". The yeast know what they're doing. Oh, and don't forget RDWHAHB!
