I'm looking at obtaining liquid yeast online. I don't have a local brew shop so it's either a 3 hour drive or mail order. Does anyone have a bad experience with getting liquid yeast in the mail d/t hot summer months? It will be shipped with ice packs, however, I still have my reservations.

Yep, there are plenty of bad luck stories like that. In fact, some of the online retailers actively discourage people from having yeast delivered during the summer months.

If you don't have an LHBS nearby, you're a prime candidate for creating a yeast bank in your fridge and stocking up either by making the pain in the butt drive to that shop you mentioned, or ordering yeast in the cooler months.

EDIT: apparently dry yeast is okay for shipping in the warm months.

yeah should be fine esp with ice pack. ive never had a bad vile before and i order yeast all the time from online shops. just make sure to make a starter. Also would make extra yeast and save it for later like JonM said.

The Yeast Bay offers an "extra ice" option for when it's hot out exactly for this reason.
