This is my best ad hoc recipe yet. It was so good it redefined the way I think of high alcohol beers. The balance between hops and alcohol was spot on perfection. 10% ABV, with 140 IBUs.
About the name. This was my first use of slants for yeast. I was using Jello instead of Agar in a slant to store my yeast. When I put the slant out, I used in this batch, it was just warm enough for the jello to liquefy. This became really nice, since I just had to pour it into my starter.
Anyway on to the recipe.
16 lbs of 2 Row
2 lbs of Amber Malt
.5 lbs of Vienna Malt
.5 lbs of Carapils
American Ale yeast #1056
Used whole hops in a 90 minute boil
4 oz of Summit @ 10 minutes
1 oz of Centennial @ 60
1 oz of Centennial @ 30
.5 oz of Columbus @ 90
.5 oz of Cascade @ 90
Fermented in a conical for 60 days with a finishing gravity of 1.012.
If anyone tries this I'd hope you'd share your results.
