Anyone have a good Leather Beer Journal. I know you can put everything online etc, but I'd love to have one that I can write all my recipes in etc.

I picked one up at Staples and love it. No marking as to who made it or product code, but I'd imagine all big box supply stores will have something.

I had one but left it at the LHBS when I went to buy some specialty grains...curses! I really should get another.

I use it for my recipe formulation and a journal of what I do on brew day, gravity checks, transfers, bottling and tasting. A lot of it is repetitive from other sources, but I like the idea of having all my brewing history in one easy to reference place (and it acts as a back-up in case my hard drive goes.)

+1

I have regular spiral notebooks with brewday notes in them, but I had a nice leather one that I kept all my recipes in--just a nice way to showcase my different beers. I have a friend who brews and does some really nice art for his bottle labels--he always pastes a label in next to his recipes to remember them. I'm not nearly so artistic.

I use common spiral notebooks as well. I put down style, name,& date brewed. Then todays date & time I did whatever. List ingredients & amounts, step by step instructions of what I actually did.
Every day I do something with it,even just an observation, gets month, day,& time of day. This includes fermenting temps & notes, what I see including bubbling during intial fermentation, how long, etc.
Then tasting notes, aroma, color, how many bottles & when, when fridge time starts. Observations next morning on any chill haze, etc.

I had some of the softcover 8x6 (or so) Moleskine notebooks lying around, so I used one of those. I don't think I'd want anything smaller than that. I use the 4x6 size ones for other types of notes and carrying around, but I don't often bring the brew notebook out of the house....

I have several pocket size Moleskine-style notebooks that you can get from Target for $3 for a pack of 3. They're blue, red and yellow and have designs signifying London, New York and Paris. I'm using these for my drink impressions and carry with me if I know I'm going to go out for a drink. Also I have a larger notebook that I use for all my brewing notes that I keep at home.
