yahoo!! after 3 months i finally figured out how to start a thread!
anyway-i have a alger that should be lagered for 7 weeks,
the last one i keprt in my plastic secondary
any benefit to using glass carboy

anyone out there?
my first lager was good but i am wondering if lagering in glass is better?

i only have an insulated box with jugs of ice for lagering
they sit on top of the plastic bucket fine
but i would try on the glass carboy if the opinion is glass is better for longer periods of lagering:ban:

The general consensus is that glass is better for everything. That being said, I use plastic primaries 70% of the time with really good results. When it comes right down to it, if the beer you make is good, the stuff you're making it with is also good. Could it be better? Well maybe, but that is up to you.

but i am all for a better product:mug:

I lager in glass carboys. I recently did an Eisenbock though, that required taking the temperature down during lagering until is starts to freeze - then removing some of the ice to force up the SG. Then temp is brought up for the rest of the lager. I had to use a plastic food grade bucket so I could get the ice out. This was my first attempt at an Eisenbock. I used a recipe that I had made a bock from before, so I was familiar with how it was to taste and I did not notice nay negative effect of using the plastic bucket.
