Little background.
I have made and consumed 3 extract, 2 partials, and 5 all grain ales, and have one in the secondary.

I buy ready to make kits from AustinHomebrew or Northern Brewery.

I am going to make my first attempt at lagering. I plan on making 2 different AG batches on the same day, and am pretty much sold on the first batch, a bock style beer (AHS Spring maibock).

The second beer is the one I am having trouble choosing. I want to make a belgian quad using lager yeast. Has anyone tried anything similar? If it is a stupid idea, go ahead and tell me it is stupid and to just brew a pilsner.

P.S. what yeast would be recommended (if recommended) in this case?

You cannot brew a Belgian Quad with lager yeast. Belgians need Belgian yeast. You can do whatever you want, of course, but the end result will not be a Belgian Quad if you use lager yeast IMO. Could be really good beer though, but brew a Pilsner if you want to stick to styles.
 
Personal bias aside, for a quad I'd select a strain with higher alcohol tolerance than most lager yeasts have (though ECY's baltic porter strain might work?). If you're interested in that combination of flavors you could try a dubbel.

That said, with a lager yeast I'd choose pilsner over quad 99/100 times, and the 1 would be a sour.
 
Belgians are all about the yeast, so remove the ale yeast and it really isn't a Belgian. I would recommend a Dunkel Doppelbock. Rich, roasty, high alcohol, a pretty good substitute for a Quad Style with lager yeast.
 
I say do whatever you want, but just call it a Baltic Porter. Use 2112, it's got high alcohol tolerance and is easy to use. I'm not a big fan of quads, so yours would probably turn out to be the best one I ever had.
 
Can you brew the quad with Belgian yeast and then lager it for awhile to try and get some of the smoothness? Otherwise I'm going with the Baltic porter suggestion above.
 
I only have 1 fridge with temp control. It has enough space for 2 buckets. It's just so much easier to control lager temperature. Otherwise I would need to switch between cold and hot control daily between day and night.
I might just so a lawn mower beer. I have a day or so to decide what to order. No local HB store

White Labs releases their Belgian Lager yeast as part of the Platinum Series in Jan/Feb....you can probably order it now.
