I recently brewed my first lager and I have it fermenting in my chest freezer. Was actively fermenting for approximately 3 days then settled down. When I open the lid of the freezer it smells funky. Beer looks fine though. No visible mold or anything. Is it normal to have a weird smell???

Lagers are TOUGH| i have 2 going right now. They are both in different stages of lagering. Mine both bubbled for 3 weeks. Where you at the right temp for the lager yeast?

The smell has decreased now, its been transferred to the secondary fermenter...4 weeks of fermenting complete.

They are generally very sulfury in the early fermentation stage. The smell subsides eventually, as you noted.

I will be bottling my lager next week! I will let you all know how it turned out :)
