I made a lacto starter with the Wyeast lacto pack (5335). 1 pint starter using 1/2 cup of malt extract. It has been sitting over my stove, which the pilot light keeps at about 80+ degrees. After a few days of working, it started bubbling today. Shouldn't this be a anaerobic process? What is bubbling through the airlock?

Lactobacillus buchneri is a heterofermenter, meaning it can produce metabolites other than ethanol. CO2 it's a common metabolite of heterofermenterd, which may explain what you are seeing.
