So, with all of the different divisions and what not that the Kroger company has, I can not imagine that I am the only guy that homebrews among all those employees. Anyone else here work for Kroger, or one of their divisions?

I bought a veggie tray at Kroger last weekend.

No, I guess that doesn't count. :)

I used to work at their Fred Meyer main office for 5 years, whatcha wanna know? I still got friends that work there too.

Not wanting to know anything, I have worked for QFC off and on for my entire working career. I am on my second stint with them in their main office. I was just wondering, as I was sitting at work yesterday, if there were any others out there.

What did you do for Fred Meyer while you were there?

ahHA! I suspected you worked at the QFC main office. I worked at their helpdesk. I mostly dealt with the POS equipment, fuel centers, and jewelry stores, but also took calls from offices and distribution centers for their desktop stuff. I also spent a lot of time harrassing coworkers via Sametime with great hilarity.

Second stint, eh? What caused you to go back. I would go back, but now I'm making 150% of what I was making there, and the pay cut would be too much to bear.

I left because I was in IT, and getting moved more and more into operations, and I did not want that. I came back because I ran into my old boss one day in a store, and he made me an offer that was too good to refuse. Now I am back in IT, doing what I love, with a company that I have always loved.

How long ago were you there?
Knowing what you did, we probably have a few names that we know in common.

I was there up until last October. Then a whole slew of things culminating into what I refer to as The Unpleasantness (not strictly job related) happened. Hmmm.... that was the same time you joined up here.... I got my eye on you young man. Oh yes.

young man... :)
I've got 8 or more years on you :p

I hope that things worked well for you once you left the evil empire,
and that you landed on your feet?

My playmate works for Kroger and she drinks my homebrew.

If she's in Phoenix, then she works for Fry's. Imagine my confusion when I started getting phone calls from them. I'd thought I worked for an electronics store! I was mistaken. :(

As for your other post rabidgerbil, meh, I did land OK. I got a job that pays pretty well, but that's the only thing I like about it. It's graveyard, working weekends, boring as year old horsesh!te, hate it. But the money... grrr.... I'd quit and start being a man-whore, but I realized the hours would be just about the same, and a bigger pain in the ass.

As to Frys, I was not sure if there were also some Kroger stores down that way. I know that all I saw while I was down there was Frys, but aren't there also some Ralphs stores down there too?

As to working for an electronics store, yeah, we have a Frys Electronics up here close to my place, so when I found out about the Frys Marketplace stores, and saw the same font in the logos, etc, I had to look up the history. Odd that one family started both companies, and then sold off the grocery stores to Kroger...

As to you pondering becoming a man-whore, I am very confused, as I had been lead to believe that you already were :drunk:

Hey, I work for a Kroger Division.....Turkey Hill Dairies!! Been there for 18 years now, only job I ever had. I oversee the Turkey Hill drinks and ice cream. In fact, this job is what lead me to homebrew. Loved beer, loved making drinks at work, so said why not brew at home. It's amazing what useless parts at work can become treasure's to a homebrewer.

Was recently at Jackson Dairy in Kansas overseeing the making of Turkey Hill drinks at their plant. Wouldn't want to live in Kansas...not a pretty place IMO. Kroger has kind of left us alone at TH. We still get the inspections and the like, but we are pretty well segregated from the Dairy division. Although, those days seem to be getting closer to ending :(

There were some Ralph's stores in AZ, along with some Smith's stores (that used to be old Albertson's stores) but now they're all Fry's and Fry's Marketplace. The Ralph's stores Kroger owns are all in southern California. Those were interesting times during the strikes a few years ago.

Funny thing about Turkey Hill. The only support I ever got for anyone calling from them was "If they call, tell them they're calling the wrong number". Them and Qwik Stop. Or was it Kwik Stop? Quick Stop? I have no idea how they spelled it, just that they're convenience stores that I didn't support.

And welcome to the board, shertz!

Ahh... I just know that a buddy of mine moved down there to go to work for Ralphs head office, and he is in Arizona. Some others I know went down there and work for Frys, out in the stores.

Thanks for the welcome. Actually, I work for the dairy, not the convenience store which are seperate and not related, believe it or not. At one time, we were together, but they parted ways many years ago and we just sell our products in there now.

Yeah, I think it is Kwik Stop. I went in a few when I was in Kansas to see how the drink section looked. Very much like Turkey Hill.

I wrecked my truck in the parking lot of the Athens Ga Kroger... Ya Ya Ya I know SHUT THE H*LL UP!!!!!!:D

Pointless thread resurrection...

Alps Rd or the old one on Broad? That parking lot on Broad had many fender bender victims, you aren't the only one.

I was a bag boy at a Kroger in high school. Minimum wage was $4.25 and I was clearing about $8 an hour with tips, more around big holidays. That's the equivalent of about $15 an hour in today's money... not bad for a high school kid. I never mowed another lawn... lawn mowing is for suckers.

and yes... I paid union dues because the manager said I had to or I couldn't work there.... this was the Butler Creek location in Acworth GA.
