Krausen fallen too soon? Dead Ringer IPA

Hello all,

I am brewing the Dead ringer IPA LME kit from northern brewer. Once in the fermenter. I had vigorous yeast activity for 48+ hrs. Had about 2 in of krausen an lots of gurgling. Then on the 3rd day into fermentation, the krausen completely fell and there is little activity going on from what I can tell. I've kept the fermenter around 60-65, but noticed it dropped to 59 last night. Wrapped my warmest sleeping bag around it, and at 60 Right now. Also relocated the fermenter to see if i can warm it up. I'm using safale us-05 dry yeast and had an OG of 1.060. Any
thoughts on what's happening? Should I raise the temp somehow? If so? What are some good methods? Noob here.

I would just leave it be for a few more days and then check the gravity.
 
It's still early to worry, and that timeframe looks like a normal fermentation. If 59F was the lowest it went, it's probably fine. Good idea to keep it at least 60F. I would wait another week, keeping that temp, and take a hydro reading.
 
Thanks guys. Tomorrow is day 6, and I'm going to take a hydro reading.
 
I'm sure you'll be fine, but if you can get it into the upper 60's for a few days now to give it some room for the yeast to clean things up you'll probably be even better. When I don't have a loaded fermentation chamber I'll ferment the first week in the low 60's then raise things up to the low to mid 70's for the following week. Then cold crash and bottle :)
 
so took a hydro reading today. got a reading of 1.019. Also raised the temp to about 68, and I am going to keep it around there for another week. Then read again. Shooting for 1.012. OG was 1.060. Beer tasted great! Lots of bitter with citrusy finish. so looking good right? Also, the procedure calls for secondary fermentation and dry hopping at about a week from bottling. I have read that secondary fermentation is not necessary is is obsolete in most cases. Is this true?

Hex- By cold crash do you mean bring the temp down for a bit before bottling?
 
I usually leave it in the primary and drop the hops on top of the beer, or throw the hops in a painters bag into a keg for a week if I'm kegging it.
