What are you guys using for thermometers in your kettles? I built my keg kettle setup and bought 3 blichmann weldless brewmometers (which look pretty cool) but i read they are not heat resistant above 140 degrees. It states in the directions that if you cant put your hand at the point where you plan to mount it then its too hot. Well, where I can/want to mount it, there appears to be too much heat. Even with my using a heat shield I think it will be too hot.

What I don understand is that I have OVEN thermometers that can withstand 600 degrees F and cost a FRACTION of what these Blichmann thermometers do. Why the heck wouldnt they be heat resistant to at least 400 degrees?

What is a better alternative? Who is using temp probes with thermocouples? and are they expensive? Do those have some draw backs? What brands are you using?

Just stinks that you can spend over $30 for a thermometer that technically wont work in most systems.

Any input would be very helpful !
