Good morning, Brothers and Sisters, I have a question. I normally use thin pieces of sheet steel as a heat shield for my burners. Do you think 3/8 ceramic tile would work? I'm trying to shield acrylic sight tubes on my kettles

I don't see why not. Ceramic tile is usually fired at 1500-1800 degrees F, so I'd say go for it. It can be used for heat shields for wood stoves and such.

I don't think tile will like the heating/cooling cycles and possible uneven heat and will probably crack.
I was using ceramic tiles around and under my burner, and this is exactly what happened. They were working fine, but unless they're specifically designed for that use, they won't last that long.

I have a bunch of left-over patio paver bricks that I began using instead.
