I have a small trickle of water coming from both the weldless SS Spigot Valve and the Dial Thermometer I just installed in my new Keggle. What is the best way to seal up the leak ?? I used the SS Washer and rubber "O" ring from the bulkhead kit I purchased. I thought about putting one of those rubber washers Bargain Fittings sells for plastic mash tuns. Would Hi Temp silicone work ??

Thanks for any advice

A decent solution would be to use teflon tape. Put a good amount on the threads on the outer side of the fitting. This will help to stop small leaks.

This problem usually stems from either the fitting being too small or the hole being too big. I'd try another cheap fitting, if that doesn't solve the problem your next solution would be to have a threaded fitting welded to your keggle.

Cheers,
Schoolmaster

It actually happens because liquid is spiraling through the thread valleys with nothing to stop it. Think like microscopic water molecules trying to find a gap. You'll figure it out. Like schoolmaster said, teflon tape to fill those valleys is the usual remedy.

You'd get more help if you take a picture of the install inside and out.

Here's what I ran into when installing my weldless valve:

1) First time, I undersized the hole in which the bulkhead fitting was going. It wouldn't go in the hole unless I threaded it. I very cautiously enlarged the hole, until the bulkhead would go in without having to thread it.

2) Next, I had a small leak coming from the silicone washer, due to over-tightening. I removed it and reassembled it, slightly less tight. If the silicone washer is bunching up or "oozing" then it's too tight.

3) I still had a small leak. I proceeded to use Teflon on all of the threads. It finally quit leaking.

4) When I filled the keggle up to near the top with water and heated, the fitting very slightly seeped. But once I had wort in there, the very slight seep got "gummed up" by the caramelized sugar, and it's not leaking anymore.
