My buddy is welding up my Keggle for me, and he said he was going to weld it "flush" to the out side of the Keg. Is this correct ?? I didn't know what to say to him.
His opinion was that he would get a better weld, and it would clean up better ?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated !

He will get a better weld...if you're using an unmodified coupling.

Flush to the outside means that all of the coupling is on the outside of the keg. Half way through would mean you'd have half on the inside of the keg and half on the outside. The only thing it really effects is your dip tubes.

What I did was drill holes in my kegs that were a tiny bit smaller than the coupling. I then shaved half of the coupling down so that it would slide into the hole. This way...when my welder layed the keg down and put a coupling into the hole...it would lay as flat as possible.

Thank you for the help !!! So other than sticking out a bit further, it will not effect anything if I am building my own dip tubs. I guess the only thing I will have to be careful with is the length of my Thermostat probe.

basically. just make sure the hole is large enough to get the pipe threads through if you are using a pickup tube.

I've got all three configurations on my kegs...they're functionally all the same.

sticking further out is actually nice in that it gets the valve further out of the heat was from the burner.
