I tried to skip the secondary fermentation based on many other opinions on here and elsewhere. Thought I would try it this batch. Made a honey brown ale and left it in primary only for 4+ weeks. Cold crashed it over night then transferred to a corny trying to pull as little trube as possible and put gas on it, let it sit for a week. My question is it seems to still be cloudy so I pulled a sample and left it in fridge to see if it would settle and it settled to pretty clear, meaning lots of bad floaties. How do I correct this? In the keg this nasty is going to settle and the pick up tube will pull it into every glass. Should I shorten the down tube? Should I transfer the whole thing back to carboy cold crash longer then transfer back? Am I SOL at this point? Should I bottle from the keg and let nasty settle in bottle? HELP!!!

If correct, I failed to allow this to cold crash long enough to clear up.

Here is the recipe I used. Not the kit just recipe.

Well, it will settle more. If you don't move the keg, and let it sit for a few days, you can pull out a small sample (like 2 ounces) that will be mostly sludge and then you should have all clear beer after that.

I almost never do a secondary, and my beer is clear after the keg sits for two-three days and after pouring off about 2-3 ounces.

You would have benefited from a longer cold crash, but I wouldn't worry about it at this point. You should see it start to clear up the longer it remains kegged in the fridge. Also, the first glass you pull from the keg will clear out most of the sediment. Each additional one should be clearer in my experience. Cheers!

Thx for the quick replies. I'll stick with it see what happens. Brewing this weekend so I take these lessons on this batch.

Are you new to kegging?

You can keg with gelatin to cause the beer to clear faster. The first few pints will be cloudy but then they clear up.

Even without the gelatin you beer will gradually clear are more trub settles and less is being picked up by the diptube. When the keg blows you will see how much is left at the bottom.

Your're doing it right. Just maybe cold crash a little longer or give it another day or so in the keg and it will clear out. But all the crud settles to the bottom of the keg and that is where it pulls the beer from. You have to give it a few days to precipitate out then pull a pint of cloudy beer and the rest should be good to go.

If you didn't use whirlfloc/irish moss in the boil it my never get fully clear, but that is haze as opposed to trub.

I am new to kegging. This is only my 4th brew ever. I keep it resting see how it goes. Pulled another 3-4 oz last night and hardly any trud. Give it a few more short waste off pulls I think it will be good. Thanks for all the advice
