So I found this kegerator on Craigslist and am going to look at today. It comes with a co2 tank as well for $30 is there anything I should look for to make sure co2 tank is good. They say price is low because lines are dirty. But it is functional....thanks for any advise. I am just tired of bottling.

LOL $30 and your even questioning it.Plug it in brfore you buy it.Or better yet have the guy plug it in an hour before you get there to see if it gets cold, aside from that for $30 how much are you going to question the guy.The co2 tank will have a date on it.If its past that date its no good without getting it recertified.Post some pics or a link.Make sure its actually a kegerator and not just a fridge with a hole in the door.

Theres only 3 choices youll get for $30

You stole it
you got what you paid for,a working ratty kegerator
Its a dud
If it plugs in and sounds normal Id buy it,either way your gambling but with minimal money. You might be able to strip it..Tower ETC. and build your own
The first thing your going to do is change the lines anyway so don't even look at them

Jonnyrotten has nailed it. Seems to me like the worst that can happen is you get all the parts for a kegerator for $30. Even if the fridge doesn't work, you should still have a faucet and regulator for $30. If it turns out that it isn't right, I'll buy the faucet, tower (if it has one) and regulator from you for $30. So you have nothing to lose. :)

Make sure the system holds pressure. Check that the CO2 lines don't leak (not the biggest concern since they're cheap to replace) and the the regulator is registering a pressure an can be adjusted. Like the previous poster said, ask him to plug it in and make sure the thing gets cold.

If the entire system is 30 dollars then buy it if literally any of it works. A used 10# steel CO2 tank cost me 60 bucks so take it and even if you save like 2 parts from it its worth the cost.

If the lines are dirty just chuck them and order new ones, they're like 80 cents to two bucks a foot at my LHBS depending on how high end you go.

I would add that if the CO2 tank is a Coke or Pepsi tank, which I doubt, you'll have a hard time getting it filled. With that being said a paintball supply place will usually fill it no questions asked. I got a Coke tank with a True cooler and no one would touch it and Coke didn't want it back. Found a paintball store that filled it for $20.

Thanks. It was actually in a garage sale so there are no pics but I am swinging by when they get home later today. If the date is older then 5 yrs on CO2 tank how hard is it to get re-certified or know if it will be re-certified?

If you have an Airgas near you or a Welding Supply place, you may get lucky and be able to swap it for another filled tank without it being within hydro. I've bought 2-20 lb tanks now from Craigslist that were out of hydro and brought them in for a swap and they didn't even look at the tanks.

So fridge seems to work ok. Tank looks new. There was no CO2 so couldn't get it on. Tower looked ok, seems like maybe the tap was heavy and kept it open. So for $30 told them I will pick it up tomorrow. Regulator looked good as well.
