keg conversion fittings

I'm planning on using welded fittings on my keg conversions. My question is whats better a 1/2 inch coupling welded midway thru keg or a threaded nipple about 2.5 long. so I have threads inside and out. Is there downfalls to either option.

Morebeer sells the fittings that they weld into their kettles. I dont see them on the website, so you'd have to give them a call.

I think most people prefer couplings over nipples because ther nipple threads get damaged in welding.
