I've never done it, but I'm thinking that I'm going to give it a shot here soon. I figured that it would save me some CO2 at least.
How many have done it? How long should I expect it to take? Maybe it's the same time table as it is for priming sugar with bottles for all I know.

done it twice. more cleaning to do when keg goes empty.
been using CO2 since.

I was thinking of doing the same thing when I keg my next batch, but I was going to DME and give about a 5lbs shot of CO2.

1/3 cup is what I prime with as well for kegs. Let them sit at room temp for 2 weeks then stick them in the kegerator at 10-12 psi til the keg is gone.

2.5-3 ounces is what I use for the beers that I normally brew. Works for me. ;)

Do you find that you have to get your CO2 refilled more often because of force carbonating?

I think the amount of CO2 that you will save is negligible..I have had the same 20 lbs tank since June with 6 to 8 kegs carbed with out any problems...I have never used sugar to carb in my kegs but I would think as a rule I would use the same amount of sugar I used when bottling a 5 gallon batch...3/4 cup disolved in a little water add to bottling bucket, or in this case straight into keg when filling...all I do now is 10-12 lbs CO2 set it and forget it two weeks and its good to go best of luck
