Has anyone ever actually burned the bag on the bottom of the pot? I've only done a couple of mashes, and kept the bag off the bottom of the pot with a spacer. But I don't think the inside of a pot of wort can really get much above 212. I once watched a boyscout boil water over an open fire in a paper cup. The water kept the cup from reaching flashpoint.
So, has anyone melted the bag in the pot?

Why, yes. Yes I have melted a hole in my bag on the bottom of the pot on the flame. The heat transfer from the thin metal bottom of that pot to the water was insufficiently fast to dissipate the excess heat. The nylon bag took the abuse. So I don't boil in that pot anymore, but rather use the thick-bottomed one, which doesn't have such a hot spot.
