Hi, I have a 110 volt Johnson Controls A419 thy I’ve used to operate a 120 volt heating element in a 5 gallon vessel. Could use that same controller in conjunction with a 220V magnetic switch to run a 220V 5500 watt element to heat water to temps in my 20 gallon vessel?

at that point you would be better off to control it with an actual SSR driven temp controller that wont suffer from premature burned or fused mechanical relay contacts. Something like the inkbird or mypin pids that are sold with an ssr and temp probe for like $40...

Thanks Augie,
I hate to bother you with this but could you give me some links to these units so I get the proper pieces?
Really appreciate the help!
Gerry

This combo would work well...https://www.ebay.com/itm/Manual-Aut...444060?hash=item43d8c2a65c:g:uj0AAOSwv0tVZUl~ you could replace the temp probe with any PT100 like the tri clamp based ones for $12 or the 1/2" npt thread ones with quick disconnect for about $8-12

the pid controller has a manual boil intensity control mode which you need for a good even adjustable boil rate vs on and off boiling or 100% on boil which would be too intense for an ideal boil of say 12-13 gallons and 5500w elements.
Let me know if you have any more questions. I have a few of these and used them in a couple panels for years. they work well and are priced well. The auber EZboil is a step up in bells and whistles but costs more too.
