Just curious, was it one of your waxed bottles?

No, it wasnt my bottle at all. Someone brought it to a tasting. I do have 1 bottle left as well, but just got it in a trade recently, so its not been waxed either.

Buddha's Brew is still drinking incredible from the last one I tried several months ago. Still one of my favorite Jester King's to date and I'm just dying a little inside because I feel like they'll never re-brew it. I may actually have to offer up some lambic to try and draw whatever is left out of cellars.

HEY GUYS!

Heading down to Austin soon, and was hoping for some food and entertainment recs. Please help. BBQ a must, need some stuff other than getting stupid on food and bevy's though.

Thanks?
I really hope this means what I think it means.

Since you'll probably be in the vicinity of Jester King...Go to Pieous! Their pizza changed my life (and undies). I'm not going to be much more help, since I live four hours away.

That's awesome - when are you coming? Here's some recommendations to start:

Breakfast: Tacodeli (IMO) has the best fancy breakfast tacos. Counter Cafe's blueberry pancakes are amazing.
BBQ: Franklin BBQ is the most famous but will have a 3 hour line. La BBQ (nearby) is almost as good. If you're near Lockhart (30 min south of the airport) then I like Smitty's for both the food and atmosphere. If near Taylor, then Louie Mueller BBQ is super legit. Finally, Rudy's BBQ is available for lunch and dinner and has several locations...it is a chain but is consistently really good.
Lunch: If you're out near Jester King, thejukes is spot on: Pieous has the best pizza in Austin and makes Brisket Pastrami. In town, Noble Pig has great sandwiches; Habanero Cafe, Lupe Tortilla, and Polvo's are my favorites for Tex-Mex.
Dinner: Kinda depends on how heavy the rest of your food was, but Uchi and Uchiko are both world-class sushi spots. Contigo and Jacoby's are both great farm-to-table spots. Easy Tiger has good bread and food, as well as beer.
Entertainment: Walk around downtown and also the hike-and-bike trail around Town (Lady Bird) Lake. The downtown Whole Foods here is epic. See a movie/eat/drink at the Alamo Drafthouse. See some bands play a show on 6th St.
Beer: a given, but the best breweries to visit are Jester King, Hops & Grain, and Austin Beerworks. Best Bars are the Draught House, Craft Pride, Easy Tiger, Wright Bros Brew & Brew, Gingerman, among others.

******* A, that's a pants-tightener right there.

Good recommendations above. Other good BBQ spots include J. Mueller Meat Company (walking distance from Hops & Grain) and Kerlin. Also worth checking out Bangers (100+ taps and house made sausages!) and Pinthouse Pizza (great food, awesome beers!).

Web site do512.com is a great spot to look for events/activities going on around town at any time. San Antonio is only an hour south, and Alamo/Riverwalk area is worth a look if you've never been.

Or you can just hang at my house and we can drink beers ;)

Can you tell us what day? I would love to try to make a run down there just to meet you up for a beer

Nothing in stone yet. Working on schedule for the next month or so, and don't know where to fit it in there yet.
Looking forward to crushing some brisket and Jester King. And finally, hopefully, Live Oak.

Well if/when you get it figured out holler at us. I'll see if I can drive down if you're cool with a bathroom hookup at Sizzlers.

Depends what your definition of soon is, 2 months from now is TX summertime and when it's finally warm enough to float the Comal river in New Braunfels or from Don's in San Marcos.

Don's is mo betta, you're floating on private property and occasionally get to see a crackhead trying to jump over bond fires at the end of the float.

If you don't get to Live Oak, or want some sooner, let me know and I'll send ya some growlers

If you don't make it by February, you may want to hold off till after March to avoid the SXSW madness. A lot of good places for food and drink have already been mentioned, but don't miss out on the top-notch taco scene in Texas either Torchy's, Papalote, Izzo's to name a few. Salt and Time is great before or after Hops & Grain, also East Side King.. Just do it..

For non food and drink recommendations, there are constantly shows going on, especially on the weekends. The Mohawk is probably my favorite venue and usually has a pretty well rounded line-up of bands that play there. The White Horse is a fun divey bar on the east side that has fun music every night and will give you a good feel of "modern Austin", be warned though it gets crowded as fugg on the weekends.

Most of my day time activities while I was still living in Austin included getting in water, but that's probably not a great option this time of year. There's always the State Capitol, bats on the Congress St. bridge, and the cathedral of junk for random touristy stuff to do.

Pass & Provisions is hosting a beer dinner next Friday (2/6) at 8:30pm. Five courses, each paired with Jester King beers. $75.

It's pretty rare these days to see a well-priced beer dinner in Houston. So obviously I've already bought my ticket.

Just noticed that Gotlandsdricka is on this weekend's draft and to-go menus. It's been like a year and a half since they released this last, correct?

AWWWWW YEEEEEE BOYYYYYYY

ISO.

Anyone going to Jester King from Houston anytime soon? I want like a freaking case of the stuff. I don't even care. You only YOLO once.

Straight up. I'm down to my last bottle of this nectar and I want more.

"Another difference between our first and second batch is that the birchwood smoked malt used to brew the beer was sourced and smoked locally at Blacklands Malt. Gotlandsdricka batch 2 is 6.9% alcohol by volume, has a finishing gravity of 1.003, and is 18 IBU. It was bottled on December 8th, 2014, and is unfiltered, unpasteurized, and 100% bottle conditioned. Like batch 12 of Wytchmaker, packaged on July 28th, 2014, refermentation in the bottle has led to more tartness, with softer carbonation, and horsey, funky aromatics. Finally, we were unable to source any Old Tom gin barrels this year, so there won’t be any Viking Metal on the horizon for 2015. "
