I suppose the definition of 'hugely successful' is highly subjective. Around these parts, with a forum full of OGs, I believe the biggest success of the kickstarter was the tremendous accomplishment of alienating a great number of us (early supporters) from the jump.

His Kickstarter raised more money than any brewery ever. I think that's at worst a fair way to define a successful campaign and arguably the best way to define one.

Like him or not, fact is the dude set the bar for that sort of thing.

That said, I fully admit to being ignorant of pretty much all other specifics about him or his brewery.

If "success" is purely limited to the money-raising aspect, I'd argue that's a very short-sighted definition. Success to me hinges on execution and follow-through, both of which he failed miserably. I'd argue that he not only poisoned the well for his own future Kickstarters and club offerings, but for other breweries as well.

Keep in mind that someone saw J. standing around between sessions and asked if he wanted to talk. 5 minutes later we were recording. I knew three things about him - he was a homebrewer with hugely successful kickstarter campaign, he makes lots of heavily fruited beers, and a bunch of people don't like him. I asked him about all those things.

I didn't have any reason to be nasty to him - he was cool with me the only 15minutes I ever spent with him. Plus I don't think it's cool to show disrespect to a stranger that just took the time to sit down and talk me.

Nice job on the interview. Agree given the parameters you spoke of that you don't disrespect the guy you just met who took the time to give you an interview.

Having said that, he's still a dick.
