What started with a BB APA kit and $80 worth of 2nd hand equip has resulted in probably 20 batches of drinkable beer (most are enjoyable to varying degrees) and several shelves of chillers, kettles, coolers, buckets, etc, etc.

Can't wait for Christmas morning to add to my shelves :ban:

Brew On!

P.S. If you're a brewer in SW Michigan send me a PM...would love to network with some local brewers

You are just starting. You have many more ahead of you. I have fermenters older than many on this forum. Happy brewing!

Thanks All!

beergolf... Yes, it's very addicting...I brewed 7 weekends in a row last Jan/Feb...I was hooked

johnmac22...CONGRATS!

bford....Yep, I've noticed lots of posts that start with "I got a kit for xmas and....". I'm not qualified to give advice to anyone...but if you're new and reading this (1) spend 1hr on youtube before your first brew and you will increase your odds of success x100 (2) If your first recipe involves oak chips, fruit, spices, or "bumping up the alcohol"...STOP! :)

Calder...That's awesome! Quality equipment will last forever with proper care

b-boy....I have no clue what I'm doing. So many variations to process, recipes, styles...it's great!

Brew On!

Wow, just checked my notes. Today is my one year too, I've only gotten 16 batches though. Im far, far away or I'd share.

Congratulations and I'll raise my glass this evening and wish us both another year of good brewing.

Closing in on my one-year too. This Friday will be 20 batches. How many batches did you guys do in your "rookie season"?

My 1 year anniversary will be in early January... my wonderful wife bought me a starter kit from NB for Christmas last year. I have brewed in excess of 20 batches and competed in a local homebrew competition in September. I think I am up to 10 fermenters total and I have collected enough 22 oz. and .5L bottles to store about 40 gallons at any given time. Clearly, I have a problem, LOL. I'm kinda hoping Santa will bring me a counterflow chiller or a starter keg setup this year...

Year 3 will be up on 12/26, and I'm currently fermenting batch#48. Hope to do two more by New Years, so I can say 50 batches in 3 years(with a little stretching of the days).

Hey! mine wast last week. 1 year down and 76 batches and counting. I think I passed the legal limit of 100gal per person in household per year sometime in March....

looks like you need to make a paper-themed beer and then a cotton one next year

This year was my 21st, but I'm still learning! Great to have this forum--back in the day, best sources of info were the Homebrew Digest (an email list, archives are available on the web) and the local homebrew club (SNOBs, in Cleveland, which had some Great Lakes brewers among its membership and held meetings at the brewpub.

Yeah, I can't imagine starting this hobby without all the tools on the internet. Plus today it seems like there is more misinformation flying around at the homebrew stores than on this forum. Seems to defy all reason....the internet is more accurate for once???

I am coming up on year three at Christmas. I couldn't even guess how many batches I have made. It is all my wife's fault, she bought me the damn thing for Christmas. :mug:
I have entered 3 contests so far, but have only won once.

Best of Category Porters and Stouts.

6 - 5 gal. batches this calendar year, but my one-year annibeersary isn't for another month, so there's a good chance it will be 7.

Congrats!!

Got my beer kit for Christmas in 2010. Made my first batch the next day :)

2011 - 9 batches beer, 1 batch Apfelwein
2012 - 19 batches beer, 1 batch Apfelwein, 1 batch kit wine, 1 batch of rhubarb wine
2013 - 17 batches beer, 1 batch rhubarb wine, 1 batch kit wine
2014 - 11 batches beer, 2 batches fruit wine, 1 batch of cider

Oh my liver :)

I've often thought that I really need to start keeping records of brews and the replies here have me convinced. It must be great to review notes about a batch. As much as we hear about sanitation and temperature control I almost wonder if logging the brew and results is something that deserves more attention. I think I know what my New Years resolution will be :mug:

Try to keep notes of every aspect of brew day, anything worthy of note during fermentation, like temps, krausen activity, etc. Even bottling & tasting notes. Everything you write down now will come in handy later! So much so that it's allowed me to write one hombrewing book & start a second! :mug:
