Great bottle shop, cool owner. Again, very convenient.


Not a beer place, but my favorite restaurant in Rome. Hard to get in, but worth it. Again, very convenient if you go to the Pantheon (my favorite place in Rome).

Flights or trains might take you through Milan. If so then I'd highly recommend Lambic Zoon. My travels were from Milan and south from there, and to be frank I found most of it outside of Milan disappointing for beer. The best options on the Mediterranean were typically German imports. The Eataly in Milan is massive and they had a very impressive beer collection include some Loons.

Looks like I was able to change the itinerary to exclude Venice and add Brussels . Venice was just going to be so far out of the way, as everywhere else we wanted to go was in a pretty convenient line.

Heading to Rome in a few hours for the first time so I’m stoked I found this thread and all these suggestions! Will definitely be making a stop at Ma Che and from the looks of it Armando looks like exactly the type of restaurant I was looking for. Any tips on getting in?!

We could not get a res, but showed up at opening, hung out for less than ten minutes, and got a table. Don't dress too casual. Good luck and spend forever at the Pantheon.

Literally did all of these and it was incredible. Drank my weight in Tipopils at Bir & Fud and then proceeded to do the same with Cantillon Gueuze at Ma Che. Stayed right off of Campo de’ Fiori so swang into Johnny’s Off License each night to snag a loon for a nightcap. Managed to grab a res at Armando and my God was that meal glorious. I’m a huge fan of the Roman styles of pasta, so having gricia and amatriciana cooked so perfectly was wonderful.
Only thing I can add was a meal at Da Enzo in Trastevere, classic hole in the wall trattoria with epic food and a pretty solid wine list from a bunch of winemakers in Lazio.

TLDR: Do everything quoted above if you’re in Rome.

I stayed right off Piazza Navona in Rome and it was great. Walking distance (*assuming you're cool with walking 10+km per day) to all the touristy ****, restaurants, etc. It's right in the middle between Vatican City and the Colosseum. Trastevere would also be a good choice just across the river.

Trastevere in Rome for sure.
Anywhere near the river in Florence will be good, imo.

Wife and I stayed in this are a couple years back. Easy to walk to the Vatican. Not too much happening at night, but an easy taxi ride to most spots.

Definitely go to Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fa in Rome. Bring some beers to share! I brought an appervation and the owner was super cool, I had to beg him to allow me to even pay for my own drinks. Also, get the steak Florentine at Trattoria Mario in Florence. If you enjoy coffee, Ditta Artigianale in Florence was the best i had on the trip.

Birrifico Artigianale Zapap was the only spot that I found that was open when I was in Bologna a year ago, it was pretty meh but the people were cool and it seems to be the center of nightlife right around there. Was recommended Le Sette Chiese by a friend of a friend who lived there for a few years and it was an amazing little family-run neighborhood spot for dinner
