my city mails us a yearly water report, im wondering if they say any info that is useful to home brewing. I know NOTHING about water reports yet, let me know what you think. right now i use a brita water filter for all of my beers. judging by this report, is that necessary? does it even give that info?

thanks

No. You need to get ahold of one of their water quality people. This is what I e-mailed my utility. I would add to that a question on if these values are stable throughout the year, or if they vary (i.e. if they draw on different sources at different times of the year). Some of these may be redundant and TDS may not matter at all.

Please forward this request to one of your water chemists.

I am interested in learning about the aesthetic/ secondary water quality
characteristics of <city name> water that are not included in the
general water report. Specifically, I need to find out about the
following (preferably in ppm or mg/L where applicable):

Calcium
Chloride
Magnesium
Sodium
Sulfate
Carbonate
Bicarbonate
Total Hardness (as CaCO3)
Total Alkalinity (as CaCO3)
Total Dissolved Solids
pH

And finally, whether you use chlorine or chloramine.

Thank you very much for your assistance!
