I ordered enough grain to do four brews about four weeks ago from brewmasters warehouse. I don't have a mill so I had to get it crushed. Basically I got super busy and haven't had time to brew my orange kolsch. Is this grain going to be less than desirable after four weeks crushed. Just looking for a good opinion.

It should be ok as long as you store it in vacuum sealed bags or at least in a sealed container away from moisture and other air. The major problem you are trying to avoid is to let the grain get "stale". If you've been storing it in open air containers, you'll end up with beer that tastes like cardboard and I'd toss it, otherwise you should be cool.

Yeah its not vaccum sealed with all the air out, but it is definitely sealed in the bag they ship in, I'm going to use it, can't be too bad.

I have a big 13 pound bag of an IPA recipe (crushed) from BMW that's been sitting here for a couple months. I plan to brew it in a week and a half or so. I'm not worried about it at all.

Saturday, I brewed an Irish Red kit that I bought from AHS in March. We'll see how that turns out.

Well the way I see it , what are your options here. You can throw them away and you'll never know, or you can brew it and you'll learn a lesson. Either they'll be fine, or they won't, and next time you'll brew sooner or freeze them in a vacuum pack. I dont trust myself to know what stale grain taste like. :D

no problems with brewing a month old crush. Maybe not the freshest but still a very good wort
