Is my company good or evil?

Today, we had our annual "Hod Rods and Jalapenos" day at work. Basically, they give us a few hours off of work to check out other employees cars and motorcycles, we have a salsa contest, and we have some music to accompany the activities. It's actually quite a fun event.

This year, I decided to go early so that I could sample all of the salsas. I'm a big fan of good salsa. Recently, Oskar Blues also opened up a new brewery in the town our company resides in (Longmont, CO). So, our beer for the day was all Oskar Blues--Mama's Pils, Old Chub, Dale's and Gordon. I'm a big fan of Dale's, so I'd not tried Gordon before. I tried it today. It was fantastic. So, I had three. Well, I came back to work about 1.5 hours ago, and I just can't concentrate. While trying to straighten up, I found out that Gordon is 8.7% ABV, so now I know why I can't concentrate.

Anyway, I'm stoked that I've had such good beer at work. We've never had this before--it's usually Coors Light and Fat Tire. But, I've been trying to develop code for that last 2 hours and it just isn't working.

What say you brew friends? Is my company good, for giving me such awesome beer, or bad for blind-siding me with such strong, tasty brew? I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but I'm killing some time before I finish up the code work I need to get done today.

sounds like they are dumb to me...serve your employees beer and then make them go back to work. Brilliant!!!

Oh here ( I think I just split the atom) how about they just do it at the end of the day so people simply go home when the festivities are over.

to answer your question though....they did give you free beer and free time off so they are much more good than bad

Overall, it's definitely been a good day. But the beer certainly made it hard to finish up what I've been doing. I think they had the party early to ensure people would actually stick around instead of going home early. What happened, it seems, is that people went to the party and then went home early anyway. Oh well, better than most days at work.

I just need to take it easy with the Oskar Blues beer. Last Thursday I went boating with a friend and the beer snuck up on me then, as well. Good stuff. Probably not good that they are opening a restaurant a couple of miles away from where I work. I like the restaurant in Lyons, where I can go, have a beer, and then go next door and play pinball for a couple of hours.

We usually have a christmas party at the local VFW and they usually pick up the tab. But we go there at lunch and then go home. We are not allowed to be at work if we've drank. (Although I do sneak a taste of my homebrew sometimes at lunch. Just a swallow or two).

I think it would be cool to not have to worry about that, but since lots of our guys operate heavy equipment, I dont' think it would be a good idea.

Meh, when I worked for a French roofing company they provided lunch which always included at least a half bottle of wine......Then it was back on the rafters with a chain saw.....Hardly anyone severed any limbs!

I am in Arvada. I so want a job at your company...lol. The beer selection at my office downtown has gone down hill over the last two years.

My company had it's first company picnic in ages. There were plenty of activities, BBQ and soda, but no beer. It was nice that they did this in lieu of working on a Friday afternoon. Beer would have been nice though.

We have Beer and Wine in the office. It is one of the perks of working fora Corporate Law firm.

Yeah, usually the VFW beer is fairly mundane, but when we first starting going there, there was a waitress that gave beer tastings and there was usually a bunch of leftover bottles of different good beers. Yeah, I don't know why either.

Now she's gone and so's the good beer.

Had a similar experience. My coworkers took me out to lunch for my birthday. I "accidently" had a couple dopplebocks. After I finished up the second one, I looked at my boss and said, "I'm going to work on my presentation the rest of the day. You know, something with no liability."

I'm also encouraged to bring my homebrew to our section's retreat.
