is it safe to sanitise brewbags with starsan?

I've left bags soaking in Starsan for a week before (forgot about it) and the bag was fine. @wilserbrewer would know 100% and worst case probably sell you a better bag that will withstand Starsan

Good luck!

If you are using it in secondary I would sanitize it with star san. I do it with my hop sacks and haven't ever had an issue. I agree that it doesn't seem necessary for mashing, steeping or boiling.

No need if you are using it for mashing/steeping as you a boiling everything afterwards.

If you are using them for dry hopping it probably isn't necessary either as you should be dry hopping after primary fermentation and the alcohol would likely kill anything nasty.

But to be sure you can dunk them in StarSan quick before dropping them in, I don't think it would hurt the bag at all. You would only be exposing it to the StarSan for a minute or so before diluting it in the beer anyways.

The alcohol concentration in beer is nowhere near high enough to kill everything (or much of anything). The alcohol (and other factors) in beer creates an unfavorable environment and makes it unlikely that microbes will multiply and take over. But it can and absolutely does still happen given a large enough inoculation rate and the right kind of microbe. I would definitely sanitize the bag before using it for dry hopping especially if you have previously used it for mashing. Grains have a ton of microbes all over them.

When I used to bag dry hops, I would just put the bags in boiling water for a minute. I think that would be more effective than star san because there could be gunk or crevices in the bag that the star san won't penetrate.
