I think the external thermostat I have controlling my chest freezer malfunctioned sent the temp got down to 43 degrees. I am not sure for how long it stayed like that, but I dont think it was for more than a few hours. I am fermenting a pale ale w/ Wyeast American Ale 1056. It had been in the fermenter for about 6 days when this happened.

Will letting the temp get that low send make the ale yeast dormant? I'm not sure if the fermentation has stopped because the lid on the bucket I'm fermenting in has a small air leak so the airlock has not been bubbling since the beginning but I did peak in there a fews days after pitching and saw a healthy kruasen so I know fermentation at least started off good. Is there a way to tell if fermentation stopped too early? If it did stop, is there anything I should do to wake the yeast back up?

I don't think that it was low enough to harm the yeast. Warm it back up, maybe swirl it a little and it should finish with no problems.

Thanks Osagedr, but that info is for lagers, Im not sure if that info applies when using an ale yeast.

I think that link is just his signature and not related to his response. After 6 days the bulk of your fermentation (if not all) was likely finished. In any event, once it came back up to temp if there was anything for the yeast left to do, they will do it.
