So I saw Iron Maiden last night. It was the first night of their world tour. I have been a Maiden fan for 30 years but have never seen them live. So I'm pumped. Maiden in Dallas, opening night of the tour, outdoor venue, good seats, what could go wrong? Those sons-a-******* played 4 songs from old stuff and EVERYTHING else was off of the last 3 albums!!!! Who gives a **** about new stuff?!?!?!?! Now don't get me wrong, they were awesome. Everything I expected them to be. But the set list was ****! My brother and I were extremely disappointed. And as we walked out after the show, all of the people were bitchin that the set list sucked. Iron Maiden disappointed about 20,000 fans last night. Really pisses me off!

The one bright side is that Dream Theater opened up. I saw them on their first tour at a club in Dallas back in '93-ish. Me and maybe 500 other people. That band is insanely talented! And they did NOT disappoint!

All-in-all, I'm glad I went, but I can't honestly say I would go see Maiden again. I would be to concerned over another ****ty set list to spend the bucks.

:rockin:

I sure hope you are kidding. I have my tickets for sometime in July and would be pretty disappointed if its all new stuff. Last time I "saw" them, I tailgated way too hard and don't even remember watching 5 minutes. So I was really looking forward to this year.

mosquito, I truly wish I was. They opened with Wicker Man, which was awesome. They did Brave New World somewhere in the middle and a 3 song encore which started with Number of the Beast and ended with Iron Maiden. That was it! No Trooper, Two Minutes, Aces High, Somewhere in Time, Can I Play with Madness, Fight of Icarus, Run to the Hills, Wasted Years, etc.... I mean I was pissed! Still am.

OMG, I'm getting pissed just thinking about how that must have felt. I'm not even as crazy about the material once Paul Di'Anno left!

I thought about rolling to this last night but the rain and threat of rain kept me away. I didn't feel like dropping $100+ to get poor seats and from what I hear I am glad I didn't! Never saw them live, but I guess this is a band that will have to live on in music alone.

The weather held out so that was nice and since it had been raining off and on all day it really wasn't that hot. Good call on saving your money though. I really am more disappointed than I have ever been in a concert. I looked for a review on the DMN website this morning but they don't have one there. Can't wait to see it if they decide to write one though.

Oh, Badger, I keep forgetting to send you an email, so...with this weekend being Fathers Day, my folks are coming into town, so I'm going to have to pass on this weekends brew session. Hopefully we can get together on the next one.

I can now buy more brewing gear! Always a nice thing to save a few $$$ for brew equipment.

We are brewing on the 19th (Father's Day Weekend) and also on the 26th. E-mail me if you can make it.

That's because no one CARES about new Maiden!!!!! hahaha

Dream Theater was everything you would expect. They are so friggin' good! amazing to watch.

I was there, on the front rail. I thought Maiden rocked, though they didnt play a single song from the first 5 albums until the encore.

While I would have loved a "greatest hits" setlist, you gotta respect the fact that they're still making new, good metal and have the balls to play it for their fans!!!! I think Brave New World was a KILLER album, and all the songs they played off it ruled (wicker man, brave new world, ghost of the navigator, blood brothers).

As far as Dream Theater, I've been a fan forever and they did the same thing Maiden did, only new stuff. Their OLD stuff is their best music, Scenes from a Memory and earlier, and they only played songs off recent albums as well (except for finale Pull me Under).

All in all both bands were playing to their NEW fan base...all the younger kids that are just getting into them. Maiden and DT are both HUGE with younger teens...and those kids dont know any of the old stuff!!

Go to the show, enjoy yourself, listen to good metal. Wife and I had a blast, and we're super glad we drove from OKC to Dallas to see the show! Both bands are still writing new music for US, their FANS. Buy the new records and you might be surprised. They are really good (maybe not Powerslave or #of the Beast good, but still good and worth a listen!)

Unlike most of their fans, Maiden isn't living in the past. That's what I heard one of the band members say recently.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the show. They are one helluva talented bacn and the songs are great. But it was my first time to see them and I really wanted to hear the "hits"

Unlike most of their fans, Maiden isn't living in the past. That's what I heard one of the band members say recently.

To me, this is a ****ty statement. Giving the fans what they WANT would make more sense to me. If your fans want to "live in the past" then play the stuff from the past! The fans are the ones that are keeping you going. Look at it like this, if I go see The Stones, I couldn't care less about "new" music! I want to hear the hits. Nobody gives a **** about a 30-40 year old band playing "new" music!

At least they are making new albums. Went to see Van Halen last tour and they rocked, but you think Eddie and co. could at least turn a tape recorder on once in a while.

Most bands' best music comes from the early years. It's my belief that the abuse of drugs and alcohol are the biggest contributing factor in their creativity, even while it kills them. Most clean bands end up recording formula music with nothing interesting, and no originality.

I can sympathize with wanting to hear IM's hits, but their new stuff is pretty great too. I'd make sure to listen to the new albums a couple of times to familiarize yourself.
The next time I see Pearl Jam, I'm worried that I won't hear enough of my favorite "oldies" even though their new album is fantastic. So, it's the same deal.

I've been a fan for about 25 years and I saw them for the Brave New World tour 10 years ago and they played the entire BNW album, and basically one or two from each album before then, with NOTHING off of Powerslave (which, personally, I consider their best album). Still, a great show, but I would have liked to see some older stuff too.

But, this is their first studio album in almost 4 years, so I would expect them to play the entire album.

i saw them at ozzfest a couple years ago and they actually announced that they were only playing songs off the last four albums, like that would make us all happy. it still kicked ass but not as much as it could.

I've seen them many times. Each time was a great show.
If you want to see them at perhaps their finest, rent or buy " Flight 666 " the Iron Maiden Documentary from last year.

it is incredible.
Up the Irons!
