Anyone ever made an Irish Whiskey barrel porter or stout?

I'm a huge lover of irish whiskey. I recently tried the Jameson Caskmates (which is aged in stout seasoned casks) and loved it...it got me thinking...I have Northern Brewer's Bourbon Barrel Aged Porter kit coming...why not age that beer with a good Irish Whiskey instead of bourbon? Anyone tried it?

I've not done a barrel aged beer yet, so I'll likely just stick with the bourbon this go round, but I definitely have the Irish version on my mind. Maybe if I had time to get it done before St Patt's I'd go with it, but I'm thinking this is a beer I'll want to age for a few months.

The NB Bourbon Barrel Porter gets better with age. I brewed a batch a year ago to have for the holidays. I tasted one 4 weeks after bottling to determine when bottle conditioning was complete so I could move to the beer fridge to avoid over carbonation and it was rather "edgy". At Thanksgiving the flavor blend was excellent. It was a nice meld of favors. I've still got several bottles left and occasionally crack one and it's just better and better.

Don't do it!

J/K. I adore barrel aged beers (ok, facsimiles of them using oak chips and liquor). An irish whiskey stout sounds good. Pour a shot into a good stout, see how you like it.

The problem with big beers like this is time. I have a bourbon barrel quad (2.5 YO), a Surly Smoke (1 YO), a RIS (1.5 YO). They're all great, but once they're gone, it'll be a long time before replacements are ready. So, now I gotta have a "fresh" beer pipeline, and an "aged" beer pipeline.

I know, homebrewer's troubles...
