What is it exactly? And what does it do for my batch?

I've poked around quite a bit, trying to find an answer, but I can't ever find anything that really explains it.

It's a red algae that grows on ocean rocks.

It has a negative surface charge when dissolved in your wort and binds with positive surface charged proteins in the boil. This will help eliminate chill haze in your beer.

It, like Whirlfloc, contains carrageenan that makes the dissolved proteins clump together & settle out when added late in the boil, leaving clearer beer later.
