Im on my eternal struggle to make clear beer. I haven't done much reseach on moss or its affects on the overall taste of the beer. I just know its not the most effective. On the other hand gelitin works the best but strips all the flavor, but I do like bill cosby... all joking aside, is it cheating to brew all grain, use gelitin, then hop extract to bring back the "love and hoppiness"?

Where did hear that it strips out the flavor of the beer? That's just not true.

You can use both. The carrageenan in whirlfloc and Irish moss help coagulate the proteins in the boil and reduce chill haze. The gelatin will help clarify the beer after packaging.

Please explain. Irish moss is quite effective at what it does.

No, it doesn't. Where did you run into that mythology?

Irish moss and gelatin do two different things. They are not mutually exclusive and can be used in combination. In fact for the best results they should.
