Well, this is on my iPad...... which, from a quick google search seems like a bad thing.

The only thing I really give a crap about on there is iBrewmaster and my recipes......

I know approximately Jack-Squat about technology....... what are the odds of those recipe's still existing/being recovered somehow?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Gonna need a little more context than just a screen cap that looks like it wants to connect to iTunes. Also give the forum more time than an hour to respond to a new thread.

What was it doing right before this screen appeared?

It had said there was an I.O.S.(???? something like that) update. I let it do the update and it just did nothing (spun) for an hour or more........ and I shut it down......which I think was a big mistake. When I started it back up, that is what I got.

Now, everytime I start it - this is what I get. This is the google search that leaves me less than optimistic:

It's a recovery mode screen. It will recover the iPad back to the last time you updated and backed up the iPad to either your computer or the cloud. More recent pads automatically update to the cloud when unused, charging and on wifi.

Standard iPad recovery directions here.

Yeah - that is the screen I went to. That is also what concerns me...... I never purposely "backed up" my iPad to a computer or to "the cloud" myself. So.... basically, unless it did it by itself, I am thinking I am screwed.

I do have Info in various places - hard copies, brun water, e-mailed recipes, etc......so, I think I have records of many things. But, not everything, for sure.

I plan on following the recovery instructions... or just taking it in to an apple store possibly. Can't say that I am real optimistic though.

Have you tried plugging it into a computer and connecting via iTunes?

Gonna try that tomorrow..... when I have a friend stop by that actually knows something about computers/technology - unlike me:eek:

Good luck!!

Sadly, in my experience that almost always means it needs to reset. I know it's too late now and I'm sure you're already thinking it, but in the future ALWAYS back up before a system update. Best of luck to you, hopefully it ends up being better than it seems.

Worst case scenario is that I have B'run Water spreadsheets on a different computer and secondary drive - which gives me my grain bills and water information for the past couple years.

I also e-mail my recipes to people quite often..... and, because I am such a crappy "tech" type person, I never delete my e-mail..... So, as a "benefit", I have all my e-mails on file going back to 2012...... Pathetic, I know. However, in this particular circumstance, I can go back and print those recipe's off that I sent from my iPad - which is many, many of them. So, the next time someone tells you to "clean up your "inbox".......

Hopefully my photographic memory will fill in the rest:drunk:

Pain in the Ass for sure.... but, probably the inspiration I needed to reorganize all the brewing information I had piling up over the last two years.

Any luck recovering your device?

Not yet. Probably going to just take it by an Apple store and see if they think there is any chance. I e-mailed iBrewMaster but have not heard anything back. If I take it through the recovery steps, I am thinking it will basically erase everything and restore the iPad to factory settings. Figure I will exhaust my other options first and then do that later this week if nothing else seems viable.
I did spend about 6 hours today going through Brun Water, e-mails, hand written notes, printed recipes, etc...... and the "good news" is that I would say about 80-90% of what I would consider "valuable" in regard to my recipes still "exists" in some format. Just a matter of reorganizing it.

I've lost quite a few recipes that I thought had a lot of potentional by resets on both software and websites. I always make a hardcopy by both printing, and writing down exact numbers and times in my 'brew journal'. Technology can be a pain sometimes.
