IPA has been in the bottles for about 2 weeks now; so, decided to chill and pop a few open. Well, the amount of head they produced is really excessive. In a glass, I'm talking about 80-90% foam and only 10-20% liquid. If I wait long enough, it goes down....but that's no good. It's a really dense foam too. It's the type of foam you can scoop out with a big stir-spoon and throw in the sink, where it makes a PLOP noise when it hits.

? What causes this one? FG too high?

It's a heavily hopped (dry) pale ale using a Pacific Ale yeast, if that matters.

Do the bottles foam up when you open them, or only after you start to pour?

If they're warm, they foam right up when the bottle is popped. If they're properly chilled, they don't when popped, but still foam up when pouring, even if I'm real careful.

Newb input here, did you use a lot of carapils/dextrin? I believe this keeps head retention, and if you used a lot maybe thats why its not going away quickly.

But my guess is too much priming sugar. 3/4 c should do it for a 5 gallon batch.

Sounds over carbonated. You can very gently pry the caps and let some gas off, without taking the cap off. You might have to do it several times.
