Hey everybody,

I have been having a bit of an issue with my HERMS system in that it appears that I am getting a rather sizable amount of heat loss. I have a feeling that it is coming from the hoses, as I have about 15-20 feet of silicone tubing that the wort has to travel through in order to fully circulate. My question is how can I go about insulating this? Is aluminum foil tape an option or do I need to switch to insulated copper pipe? Thanks so much!

Hey there - I'm experiencing a similar issue with apparent heat loss. Wondered what your solution may have been?

I insulated the hoses with plumbing insulator. Unfortunately it did not help too much. I think it is just because the wort has a long way to travel from the heat source. I am in the process of designing a new system that hopefully will remedy that by keeping the lines short. Sorry if that isn't very helpful.

My free solution is just to keep the HLT water temperature warmer, so that the differential is higher, but it doesn't matter because it still keeps the temperature where I want it. It's a perfect solution for me because I don't want to change anything else in my system, but it may not work for others.
