I ran into two separate batches of brew that was infected. Upon inspection of my primary bucket I have found a couple of scratches on the inside. Any ideas on sanitizing this thing? Or just go ahead and buy a new one?
You could try star san and see if that gets into the scratches enough to kill all of the nasties in there. Brew a new batch and see if it gets infected. You could also try to take a fine grit sandpaper (800+) to them to try to smooth them out, sanitize, then test again. If you feel the need to buy a new one you can still re-purpose the old one for many different things.
Lol just thought I'd ask and see if anyone had a special remedy. I did a pretty highly concentrated dose of chlorine bleach and that didn't get it out so I bet it's there to stay.
Strange. I accidentally took scotchbrite to one of my buckets, causing a bunch of very fine scrateches. Is it the very fine scratches that cause infections, or is it only the deep scratches? Is there some kind of polish that would take out my scotchbrite scratches? Someone mentioned very fine sandpaper but I don't know if that works on plastic.
