Hey y'all, this is my first time brewing something high-grav, so I thought I'd share it with y'all for a critique.

KALARAATRI imperial black ipa

YEAST: Wyeast 1056
BATCH: 5.5 Gallons
GRAVITY: 1.070 OG - 1.013 FG = 7.47% ABV
BOIL: 75 min
IBU / SRM: 95 / +80
FERMENTATION: 14 days @ 64 F

MALTS
5 lbs Light DME
1 lb Amber DME
2 lbs 2 Row
8 oz Midnight Wheat
8 oz Blackprinz
8 oz Special B
8 oz CaraMunich II
8 oz Victory
8 oz Aromatic

HOPS
75 min 1.25 oz Chinook
45 min .75 oz Chinook + .25 oz Citra
30 min 1 oz Irish Moss
15 min .75 oz Citra
0 min 1 oz Falconer's
Dry 1 oz Willamette

Plan to minimash in 1.25 and 1.25 gallons, then rinsed with 1 gallon to bring wort to 3.5 gallons.

Any input would be appreciated! :mug:

That's a lot of different grains.

Too many different grains can be too "complex" tasting-no grain will shine through. Sometimes simplistity is better with grain bills.

Just my opinion.

I think the hop schedule looks fine but I'm sure you will get mixed opinions about how to shuffle them around.

ditch the aromatic, cut the special b in half, dry hop with amarillo or centennial. ferment for 21 days at 66.

I've followed both y'all's advice and finalized this draft of the recipe.
I can't help but say I'm feeling a little ambitious with this one but very excited!!

Quickedit: might replace the 1 lb amber dme with another pound light or extra light dme or 8oz maris otter or 8 oz crystal10 (never got to use it before and would prefer trying it to amber). What do y'all think about that?
I noticed my lhbs had the blackprinz and midnight wheat available, which I had never seen before. So I felt inspired and changed up my recipe in the process. Good call on the amount of grains and potential clashing/dulling it would create. Hopefully I've edited it out well enough. Thanks for your help and input guys!
