I've upgraded from a 25' to a 50' copper immersion chiller. I'm thinking of connecting both together and putting the 25' into a bucket of ice water. Basically using it as a prechiller. Has anyone tried this and seen any noticeable difference? In theory you would think it would have to be more efficient than just using tap water around 47 degrees.

I have done it and it has made a difference. However my tap water is 70-80F+; in your case it probably wouldn't be worth the effort.
