I am trying to shorten my brew day by heating the strike water using an immersion heater and timer. I know the bucket heater is recommended across the boards but it's also not food grade.

Short of making my own, are there any prebuilt , food grade,
and decent quality 120v immersion heaters available?

They have this on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Volume-Heater-Coffee-Heating-Cooking/dp/B00FO8FY68/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1412785246&sr=8-13&keywords=soup+heater
Personally, I am going to get this http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/allied-precision-bucket-heater-1000-w
It may not be 'food grade' but I aslo don't see any warnings that it is not suitible for potable water. Since I am am planning on only pre heating strike water, which in the end will get boiled, I am not too concerned about it.

I looked at the bucket heaters. I guess my question then is why is not food grade ?

Has anyone used the soup heaters posted above from Amazon?

My assumption would be that claiming to be food grade requires lab testing/licensing/certification, that they're not willing to do for such a cheap product or are too small scale to do so.

Either way, I plan on doing this as well and am not worried about it at all.

Nice, saw someone talking about that bucket heater in another thread, haven't bothered to look for one but thought sometime in the future I might add one to the brew setup if I don't go with a heat stick build.

I guess that bucket heater is a heat stick really, or at least seems to be.

Hmm, temp controlled from the control panel...??? Maybe not worth it.

Food grade means safe to eat. You need to find out of it's rated for drinking water contact.

If you believe this Amazon listing this one is rated correct - it's designed to heat soup and coffee!
