i find my mood is very closely related to the quality of my beer. when i brew a really good batch it makes me happy. when my beer doesnt come out as expected i find i am in a sour mood. at least until the next great batch.

when i had my business i found that my mood correlated directly with my bottom line. generally unhappy during financial struggles. although i was mostly in the red then. lol.

does making good beer make you happy too?

Yes and no, it depends on the beer for me. I had my first infection in my 13 years of brewing last month, that pissed me off a little but it was a small batch and luckily a cheap one. Now I missed gravity on a beer a little while back because I used my steam condenser lid and didn't adjust my boil off rate, I was really upset with myself so the rest of that day I was in a bad mood, but the beer turned out good, just a little low on abv. But I will say, when the beers turn out as planned it definitely puts a smile on my face.

I'm sitting here in my garage brewery supremely happy right now, because my latest attempt at a wheat-ish lager turned out absolutely amazing. Also my husband can't keep his grubby paws off the current batch of house NEIPA. So yes, that makes me happy. A bad batch (particularly one so bad that it gets burial at sea) can bring me down a bit, but no matter what the cause of said bad batch I rally. I haven't yet gotten to the point of 'never again'. This is a happy hobby, at least for me.

Absolutely it makes me happy, and a pint or three of my brews at the end of the day is one of the things I look forward to.

To anyone who has brewed beers they did not love or even have had to chuck, I've been there. But practice makes for better beer, got to keep at it. Brew batches of beers you like, correct any mistakes. Just like anything else you want to get good at.
