Grain Bill

14lbs Pale 2-row (US)
1.25lb Crystal 30L 1lb
1lb Cara-Pils

Hops
[Bittering]
2oz Centennial (60min)
1.5oz Chinook (45min)

[Aroma]
1oz Cascade (20min)
1oz Williamette (10min)

[Dry Hop/Secondary]
1oz Liberty (14days)
.5oz Williamette (14days)

This is a recipe I just whipped up this morning, going to make it next week but was wondering if anybody can spot any major red flags (!) with it, or if it looks solid. Suggestions welcome, thanks in advance.

At 1080, I wouldnt use any carapils myself. how are you mashing this? have you considered drying it out with simple sugar?

BTW, Un-brewed recipes belong in the recipe forum rather than the recipe database. This is a place for recipes you've tried, been happy with, posted pics, tasting notes, judges feedback etc.

woops, maybe a mod can move the thread. Why not use cara-pils? I know nothing about recipe formulation I was throwing stuff together. Anyways, thanks!

Carapils adds to your body and final gravity on the beer. The way I brew, after about 1060 or so theres plenty of body from the other grains. Your methods may vary, of course.

To me, the biggest difference between an american barleywine and an iipa is the mouthfeel, subdued sweetness and dryness you get in the latter. Carapils doesn't help my big beers when it comes to that.

But hey, everyone brews a little different. If you've made a recipe like that one you've been happy with, go for it.

oh I havent made this recipe yet.... haha okay thanks! that helps. If I remove it, any suggestions on something else to add in there? seems pretty plain to me otherwise.
