I am going to convert a 60 QT Igloo Ice Cube cooler to a mash tun this week. I have read several threads about all the different ways of doing it. I am curious if anyone has first hand experience. The two "best" threads I have found also seem to be lacking.

This is the infamous Rubbermaid thread. DOesn't really get into the Igloo with the slanted corner and drain plug.

This seems great but has no washers, etc.

And this one is similar to the previous, but again is deceptively easy. I dont' trust it! HA

Does anyone have a tried and true list of parts for this conversion?

I really appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

We just used a 1/2" weldless bulkhead made for kettles and such sold at a lot of homebrew stores. Put a NPT nipple on the inside of the cooler and attach a braid with a hose clamp and put a 2 or 3 piece ball valve on the output side of the cooler.

Thanks, Chumpsteak. You didn't piece it together completely from Home Depot (or equivalent) but bought the conversion kit's bulkhead? If so, do you happen to know all the parts that came with it? I am most nervous about leaks and the such.

Thanks, homie.

I pieced it together twice and it leaked like crazy. I then bought a weldless bulkhead from the brew store and it has been solid since.
