What is the difference between AAU and IBU. I am familiar with calculating AAU, but am unsure as to what I really need to know about IBU. Thanks.
IBU is the international bittering units. It is just a way to signify how bitter the end product is. It is determined by the AAU's of the hops used, their boiling times, and the efficiency of extracting the alpha acids. From what I understand you can calculate about what they are, but it takes lab work to get the exact IBU's.
I know there is a formula for calculating an estimation, but i'm not sure what it is.
