I have been brewing extract beer for a few years. I have decided its time for all grain brewing. i was wondering if there is someone in my area that maybe would not mind showing me the ropes, This is all new to me , also are there any brew clubs here thank you

I am located about an hour and a half from you, and I am also looking for a local brew club. Have you been to the home brew shop in OKC? I have been there along time ago, but I only made wine then.

If you can find no one near you then i would suggest checking out a few videos that are on the web which i am sure someone can point you to, i just dont remember where they are. That is what i did and watched them eacha few times. AG seems like this giant monster in the closet until you actually just get your feet wet and jump in.

A few helpful tips:

Pay no attention to Step mashing at first as most malts are well modified and do not require it.

Get a program like promash

use someones known and proven recipe the first time

try hard to hit mash temps

take your time in sparging.

And leave yourself at the very least 5 1/2 hours for the brew day.

Pick up the book "How to Brew" by john palmer

If i can think of more tips i will add them but these should get you on your way

Leaving plenty of time is a definate must. I would go one step farther and do your first AG batch on a day when you have even more time. A full day would be ideal. Yes 5 1/2 hours should be plenty of time even for a first timer, but if you leave plenty of time you are more relaxed and less likely to leave out a step.

I think it's really wise asking someone to show you how your first time. I had a friend who was a long-time AG brewer show me how and I think it made things easier for me. I had never even brewed extract - he convinced me to just skip it. I also did a lot of reading to try and clear things up before hand. If you lived closer I'd be happy to walk you through things. It's actually a lot of fun teaching someone new. I bet you can find someone local through your LHBS or a brew club.

I thought this guy did a pretty good job. I have never done an AG brew yet, but I could follow his instructions very well.
