Okay, I have built a better possum trap. Concrete re-inforcements. They are the legs to a concrete bench. I had to roll them to move them and I'm pretty strong. The nephew came and got hubby today, so had the day to myself, maybe you could tell. I called him and asked him to please bring home a can of catfood, fish flavored. I don't know why he has to ask me so many questions, just bring home the cat food!!!

In response to other trains of thought: Bolt Action 30-06 with the right round and scope will cover just about any game in the lower 48, IMO, I have 2 of them. Most all my long rifles are bolt action, with the severity of the weather up here during any season I want a reliable weapon when I'm ready to take my shot.

Yeah yeah, yuck it up! No, I'm still not sure I have the right stuff when it comes to being a dad. Grew up an only child, and know they dont have an on/off switch, so definitely want to be somewhat "sure" before I take a lifelong plunge.

I didn't marry or have children until I was 40. I married and instantly had 4 teenagers.

The animals, squirrels, birds, are building their nests now, so no babies yet. They build their nests, then they mate then of course, have the babies about 6 weeks later. I got time before worrying about babies somewhere. I'm pretty sure this possum is a stud, a boy. Wish me luck catching and relocating him.

He sleeps until past noon everyday and I'm always up by 5 or 6, at least for a short while. He doesn't have to know if I caught the 'possum unless I tell him. I am so mad now that I want to eat him(the possum), share him with my friends....

No offense to the other, absolutely intriguing posts, but I am mesmerized by the possum mission. You wanna catch a possum? Put some chicken in that trap. Live, dead, it don't matter. And if you plan on eating it (the possum, not the chicken), you need to cleanse it. Feed it shelled corn and plenty of water for about a week, then bam! Especially if he's been eating the stuff you've been baiting with. Baiting with fresh or live chicken cuts the cleansing time to 4 days. I read that somewhere.

Setting and baiting a trap all comes down the creature you're trying to trap and you. Each of here will have his or her own thoughts on the best way to go about it and for the majority, they would be right.
My thought is that you got to believe it will work and it will.
Up here everybody has their own set, whether it's for beaver, martin, ermine, lynx or whatever and most sets work but what I see for most of us is just believing that ours is going to work!
So yes, I believe your set will work!

I was Army so I did not say anything but my dad was navy and he told me of a time honored tradition the nave does every time they cross the equator. Something about cross dressing ans pollywogs and shellbacks. Ok I made up the part about cross dressing but hey I was Army what did you expect:rockin:
