Hey Dan. Love you man.

It was a good Sunday. I hung out with my boys, worked on my shed a bit and sort of tamed the lawn I've been neglecting. This is certainly our busy time of the year. Boys are going back to school on Tuesday. I will miss their first day. That makes me a little sad but I guess work comes first.

We are actually flying to work tomorrow. The company we work for has a company plane. They would rather fly us around than pay drive time. It's pretty cool actually. I don't imagine many electricians are getting flown to work tomorrow morning. I feel sort of special;)

My brother, Is Chiavo.

Well done is what we said in the Navy when somebody did something really well and we wanted to respect and acknowledge that effort. It's a simple and humble phrase but a truly significant tribute to a person we respect, and are proud of for their accomplishments.

So to my brother Leon; Ischiavo

Well Done! [emoji1]

With dignity and respect;

Time to say good night
I wish you happiness every day and night

I have a bad feeling about this thread, I'm thinking its dying; enough said

I wish it was still in its glory bales of hay
But it's not, no activity now
These days.

So many have come and gone. Singing an honest song
But these days now it ain't the same
Life moves on its a different game

So to Andrew my friend Who I call Pappy

It might be time to close this thread cause I no longer understand if it makes people happy

Cheers
Dan

After saying all that above. I never want this thread to die. I especially do not want to loose touch with Pp

@Dan this thread will never die after we're long gone the aliens will read it and try to decipher what you were talking about on the last page!

Anyway, baby Sammy trying to get him to sleep...have to go back to work next week

To brother Sammy

Reading 1984 - Winston Smith drank some bad gin he had on hand.

Colin Kaepernick is the biggest news.

We live in interesting times. What will history say about us? Hillary, Donald - I just don't know.

I just listed current topics without positing a stance.

I typed a swear word in a different thread BB fixed it before it got posted. I was intending to break the rules.

Bad me.

Gotta love America...the world is a scary place and only time will tell how this election will go...if polls are to be considered fact Hillary will win in a landslide...baby just fell asleep need to catch some Z's myself

I am not dead yet! Hello late nighters! Sorry I have been gone so long. I have a lot of catching up to do. I hope everyone is well! Good news on the beer legislative front: we passed the house and senate and we are just waiting for the Governor to sign our law. (allowing homebrew clubs to meet and share homebrew at licensed establishments in California). I even went to Sacramento and testified in front of the Senate. That was kind of fun.

Work as been crazy and life is a mess. I hope to join you all for a late night brew soon.

Dear Later Nighters (especially you Californians):

We are at the last step for our new law. The bill is now on Gov. Brown's desk (for the next 12 days). If you have time, and you quickly send him a supporting letter? Thank you.

Albert Friske (LabratBrewer).

Here is the info from the AHA:

Urge Governor Brown to Sign AB 2172
Legislation Would Permit Homebrew Clubs to Meet, Hold Competitions and Share Their Beer Amongst Themselves at Licensed Establishments
The American Homebrewers Association is supporting an effort led by the California Homebrewers Association to pass legislation on behalf of California’s homebrewers.

Your action is needed now to ensure Governor Brown signs AB 2172, sponsored by Assemblyman Brian Jones of Santee, into law. If enacted, this bill will permit homebrew clubs to meet, hold competitions and share their beer amongst themselves at licensed establishments such as brewpubs, tasting rooms and restaurants.

On August 24, AB 2172 passed a final vote by Assembly, sending it to the Governor's desk.

How Can You Help?

This is our last big push to ensure this bill is signed into law.

You may use this sample letter from the California Homebrewers Association to customize your own letter of support. It is important to be polite and respectful in your message. Please remember that this is a bipartisan issue and anything that we send is a reflection on all California homebrewers and our wonderful hobby.

Letter Address:

Governor Jerry Brown
c/o State Capitol, Suite 1173
Sacramento, CA 95814

While letters are more effective, an online form is available as an alternative means of contacting the Governor. Be sure to select AB 2172 as the chosen subject.

Thank you for your support of homebrewers. Your action could make the difference in whether or not this legislation becomes law.

Sincerely,

Gary Glass
Director
American Homebrewers Association

Going to brew this weekend (finally!). Something very very hoppy.

Go cowboy go cowboy go!. You know life is good when you can plan on brewing and it happens.

Here's some country pop for your late nite Soundtrack. Don't shoot Dan, I know it's not Johnny Cash. :) I do like Big and Rich. And I love it when Cowboy Troy jumps in.

Shoots Pappy.. Ya I DO like Johnny Cash [emoji4]. But you nailed it on that song.

Speaking of brewing. I did my first BIAB last weekend. Finally got a small chest freezer and put together a temp controller with an Stc-1000. First 24 hours good. Second two four the STC broke. Still reads temp and the cooling light says its powering up the cool side of the outlet. The heat side is not hooked up, never need it in HI, never broke the tabs in the outlet.

Could rack this problem to cheap parts from China but seems they did their part.

I noticed this morning before going to work the temp was 22c and I'd set it to 20. It was only a few hours into fermenting. I didn't have time to think about it much other than the yeast are happy in love and reproducing; that creates heat...so I went to work. Got home. Holy cow! Twenty seven C but the cool mode light was on. I checked the power on light on the freezer -out

I unplugged the freezer from the temp controller and plugged it into the wall outlet; a few minutes later when the compressor time delay kicked off. Green light. Freezer was cooling.

Did some basic trouble shooting.

1 power is going to the controller
2 all wiring sound
3 temp of the cooler read by the STC1000 is correct (I verified this by putting a digital thermometer next to the STC's thermal sensor. They agreed
4. I noticed the freezers plug wasn't initially plugged in all the way. Enough to hold the plug in but maybe not enough to make a solid connection. So I pulled the plug and reinserted it completely. Freezer power light light still out

My guess what went wrong is one of two things

1 the controller is just bad China junk

2 or maybe the because the plug was not initially fully pushed in it created a lot of resistance to current flow when the controller kicked on. That extra draw welded the switch contacts... Or something like that

I've bought another STC1000 because I doubt they'd be as popular as they are if so junky. I think I induced the error

I never had any trouble with mine. I also have a johnston temp A419(?). On that one when I built my new keezer I forgot that there was an initial delay before it would power the coooling (like 10 minutes). I though it was not working and it drove me crazy until I remembered.

Anyhow, I hope you get it solved.

Flaky connection won't draw more current. A poor connection increases the resistance, which then increases the heat passing through the connection (heat = I^2 * R). So, the poor connection didn't hurt your STC1000. Probably just a bad unit (could be anything inside, including cold solder joint, dead output relay, something else fried on board). I'd just buy another one. Sucks, but it's life I guess.

My previous house AC had a delay ckt in the air handler that kept the fan blowing for a few minutes after the compressor turned off. Maybe got another 1% in effeciency, dunno. That ckt board died, taking out the entire AC unit. I climbed up there and removed / bypassed this board and got it all working again. That system's gone now.

Speaking of AC units, our current thermostat has a differential of 1°, and there's no way to change it. It came with the house, and is kind of junky. Is that typical though? The thing seems to cycle every 5-10 minutes at night. I'd assume with other units, you would be able to set that, or they would have the delay your old unit had, Passed. I was able to find the instructions online, which is how I got my information.
